Olympics 2026: Super Team abandoned — German ski jumpers miss bronze by 0.3 points

No happy ending for the German ski jumpers: Andreas Wellinger and Philipp Raimund were able to hope for a medal during two of the three scored rounds in the Super Team — but an interruption and then abandonment of the competition after heavy snowfall ended those hopes.

The German pair missed the medal they had targeted to close the Olympic jumping programme in Predazzo. In the Super Team on Monday (16 Feb 2026) Andreas Wellinger and Philipp Raimund finished fourth after only two of three scored rounds — they were short of bronze by just 0.3 points.
Austria won ahead of Poland and Norway
The favourites from Austria took victory. Stephan Embacher and Jan Hörl were Olympic champions after only two scored rounds with a total of 568.7 points. They finished 21.4 points clear of Poland (Paweł Wąsek / Kacper Tomasiak). Bronze went to Norway (Johann André Forfang / Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal), who ended 30.7 points behind Austria but 0.3 points ahead of Wellinger and Raimund.
Abandoned because of heavy snowfall
The scheduled third round had already seen 13 of the 16 jumpers go when intermittent heavy snow and backwind repeatedly interrupted the round. Raimund had put pressure on the field with a jump of 136.0 metres, but the jury then stopped the competition before the final three jumpers. As a result only two of the three rounds counted.
How the competition unfolded
After round one the Germans were fourth, with Wellinger having reached 127.5 m and Raimund 137.0 m. Austria led ahead of Slovenia and Poland. Germany were 17.9 points behind Austria and 1.2 behind bronze — Japan and Norway were just behind the Germans.
In round two (the entry list was cut from 17 to 12 teams) Wellinger managed only 123.5 m and lost important points; Germany dropped behind Norway and Japan. Raimund again produced a long jump (137.5 m) that kept German medal hopes alive. Going into the final the Germans sat fourth clearly behind Austria, with second place (Poland) 9.6 points away and bronze (Norway) only 0.3 points ahead. There were just 2.6 points separating bronze from sixth place.
In the third round Wellinger reached 130.0 m — shorter than Japan’s Ren Nikaido (138.5 m) and Norway’s Johann André Forfang (134.0 m) but longer than Anže Lanišek (128.5 m). Wellinger was visibly frustrated on landing. Before the contest was stopped Japan had opened an 18.0-point lead to first, Norway sat 11.5 points behind in third and Poland had dropped to fourth, 8.9 points ahead of Germany, which fell to sixth.
Delay, frustration and then abandonment
Shortly before the medals were decided, backwind and snowfall repeatedly delayed proceedings. After Raimund’s big jump (136.0 m) and with Poland’s Kacper Tomasiak having to wait in difficult conditions (he eventually landed at 124.5 m), the jury decided to abandon the competition. Only the first two rounds were counted.
Reaction in the German camp
Coach Stefan Horngacher and sport director Horst Hüttel expressed frustration after the abandonment, criticising competition management and the jury decisions. The athletes themselves described the narrow miss as "extremely bitter." Videos and interviews with Wellinger, Raimund, Horngacher and Hüttel accompanied the report on sportschau.de.
