Philipp Raimund – the old, new great hope of German ski jumping

Philipp Raimund enters the 2025/26 winter as Germany’s leading hope in ski jumping after capturing the overall Summer Grand Prix title — the first German to do so since Andreas Wellinger twelve years ago. The Göttingen-born SC Oberstdorf athlete admits the success still feels “unreal,” but says he’ll only fully process it if he can deliver in winter as well.

Raimund points to steady progress at the end of last winter — including top‑five results at the World Championships in Trondheim and at World Cups in Oslo and Lahti — and says he has now “raised my baseline level,” adding more stability, calm, and harmony to his jumps. He also feels he has benefited from recent suit adjustments, which forced him to do more actively in the air and sharpen work on his personal “construction site,” the flight phase.

Competing in the World Cup since 2019, Raimund stresses that staying relaxed improves his performance and that he is striving to keep external expectations at bay. He recalls how pressure affected him three years ago: after a breakthrough Four Hills Tournament debut with consistent top‑15 finishes and 12th overall, his form dipped. Now, he wants to convert his summer form onto snow and build on the confidence of his first World Cup team victory trophy from Lake Placid — a reminder of what’s possible.

Looking ahead, Raimund is targeting medals and podiums across a packed season and is especially excited for his Olympic debut this winter. He says there is still room on his home trophy shelf — and he intends to fill it.
