Disaster start: Which nations are outperforming Poland’s ski jumpers

The opening phase of the 2025/26 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup has been disastrous for Poland. After five individual competitions, not a single Polish jumper has cracked the top ten.
In the windy, lottery-like Ruka event, only Kacper Tomasiak managed to score points, finishing 18th. The rest of the Polish team finished outside the points and looked well below their best. While supporters are still giving head coach Maciej Maciusiak time to stabilize the situation, their patience is visibly wearing thin.
Journalist Adam Bucholz (Skijumping.pl) summarized the nations appearing in the top ten across the first five individual World Cup competitions of 2025/26: - Austria – 17 top-10 finishes - Slovenia – 10 - Japan – 8 - Germany – 8 - Bulgaria – 2 - Switzerland – 2 - Finland – 1 - France – 1 - Norway – 1 - Poland – 0 (still waiting)
Sunday’s Ruka program was also impacted by weather: morning qualifications were canceled due to poor conditions, with the second individual competition planned to start at 14:50 local time.
