Polish team coach urges patience with Kacper Tomasiak: "Let's not demand too much"

Kacper Tomasiak finished the Innsbruck competition in eighth place, marking his fourth top‑10 result this season. “Let's not demand that Kacper immediately jump onto the podium, let's not put pressure on him. He should just jump his own jumps. Two good attempts in the contest — and that certainly pleases me,” Maciej Maciusiak said, praising the 18‑year‑old.

Aside from Tomasiak we didn’t have many reasons to celebrate. Apart from him, only Dawid Kubacki scored points. For Kamil Stoch and Maciej Kot the competition ended after the first round.

“If we look at the others, a small plus must be given to Dawid, because what we saw yesterday was a catastrophe. The trial jumps and the first‑round jumps today were already much better. Regarding Kamil, unfortunately nothing has improved since yesterday. He still struggles with the in‑run position — he pulls back a bit and doesn’t get a good forward push, energy from the front. For Maciek it didn’t look technically bad, but he lacks speed in the second phase to fly an extra two or three metres,” the coach summarized.

On Sunday at Bergisel Paweł Wąsek also appeared as a trial jumper. “Yesterday we asked the jury for permission so Paweł could jump here today. Today we also asked that he go last in the trial round and jump just before the number one,” Maciusiak explained.

Team’s waxes will be examined in a laboratory

During today’s detailed inspection it was confirmed that the Polish staff did not commit an error in the matter of Paweł Wąsek’s disqualification. Most likely the wax our team used was contaminated with fluorine during production.

“After a detailed check — during which they admitted that it was definitely about waxes — Mathias Hafele asked if we could leave them with him. We left that one and two other waxes from the same company. They will take them to the laboratory and that’s what we know so far,” Maciusiak revealed.

“This is the worst part: the athlete is being wronged and he is completely innocent. A first disqualification and for wax. I don't think anyone would have expected that,” he emphasised.

On Sunday evening the athletes will move to Bischofshofen, where the final qualifications of the Four Hills Tournament will be held tomorrow.
