Polish jumper scores World Cup points — everyone talks about Nika Prevc's feat

Anna Twardosz placed 22nd in a Women's World Cup ski jumping competition in Villach, Austria. Slovenian Nika Prevc took the win — her sixth victory of the season — and moved into the lead in the overall World Cup standings. Austrian Lisa Eder and Germany's Selina Freitag joined her on the podium.

Twardosz jumped 83.5 m and 86 m on the normal hill for a total of 198.6 points.

In the first round Prevc flew 94.5 m and in the second she landed about half a metre shorter, winning with 247.9 points. Runner-up Lisa Eder jumped 92 m and 96.5 m and lost by 2.7 points. Third-placed Selina Freitag reached 91 m and 94 m for 234.5 points. Just off the podium was Canada's Abigail Strate, who had won in Oberstdorf on 1 January.

After Villach Prevc has 966 points and leads the overall World Cup, ahead of Japan's Nozomi Maruyama with 934 points. Norway's Anna Odine Strøm is third with 633. Anna Twardosz, with 122 points, sits 21st in the standings. Polish jumper Pola Bełtowska has 18 points this season and is 40th.

A second women's competition in Villach is scheduled for Tuesday; the first round is set to start at 14:20, with qualification earlier in the day.
