The New Year’s competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen — the second stop of the Four Hills Tournament — produced another dominant performance from Slovenia’s Domen Prevc. After already winning the opener in Oberstdorf, Prevc led at the halfway mark in Garmisch and remained untouchable in the final. His jumps of 143.0 m and 141.0 m gave him 303.1 points and the victory.

Austria’s Jan Hörl (141.0 / 131.5 m) finished 15.4 points behind in second place, while teammate Stephan Embacher (134.0 / 141.5 m) took third, only 0.6 points behind Hörl. The crowd of 22,000 watched the close contest.

The result also affects the Four Hills overall standings: Prevc remains the Tour leader, with Hörl 35.0 points adrift and Embacher 41.5 behind. Manuel Fettner was 13th, Jonas Schuster 24th and Stefan Kraft placed 26th. With Maximilian Ortner in tenth, four Austrian “Adler” made the top ten in Garmisch.

Young Austrian Stephan Embacher (19) was delighted after securing his second World Cup podium of the season (he was second in Falun earlier). He acknowledged the gap to pre-meeting leader Prevc but said the Austrians would “keep fighting” to put pressure on him.

Daniel Tschofenig’s hopes of defending his Four Hills title are effectively over after he finished ninth in Garmisch and trails too far in the standings. Timi Zajc suffered a second disqualification on the tour and is banned from the remaining events in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen.

Prevc commented after his second consecutive Tour win: “This means a lot to me. It’s really great — I hope I can continue like this.” Asked about the Grand Slam (winning all four Tour events), he stayed focused on his own preparation and performance.

Final result (top places) and the updated tournament and overall World Cup standings were published after the competition.
