Ski jumping in Garmisch: Domen Prevc extends lead — Hoffmann and Raimund strong again

The Four Hills Tournament stop in Garmisch-Partenkirchen produced no surprise winner on New Year’s Day: Slovenia’s Domen Prevc was dominant on the Olympiaschanze and claimed his second Tour victory. Austrians Jan Hörl and Stephan Embacher took second and third, respectively.
Germany’s Felix Hoffmann and Philipp Raimund were again in fine form, finishing sixth and seventh. Raimund praised Prevc’s performance, saying the winner has a flight feeling he can only dream of; national coach Stefan Horngacher was satisfied with the German duo’s placements.
Jan Hörl tried to put pressure on Prevc with a 141 m jump, but Prevc responded by flying two metres further and consolidating the lead. In the final round Prevc landed a 141 m jump to secure the win; Hörl managed 131.5 m. After the event Prevc led the overall Tour standings with 619.8 points, ahead of Hörl (584.8), putting him in a strong position to win the Golden Eagle, a decade after his brother Peter did.
Felix Hoffmann impressed with a 134 m first-round jump and a 136 m final jump, while Philipp Raimund delivered 135 m in the second round — both came up short of the podium but produced two solid top-10 results for Germany. Pius Paschke reached the final in 23rd and finished 21st overall, which he called a confidence-boosting day.
Andreas Wellinger and Karl Geiger failed to progress to the second round; Wellinger’s 124.5 m was not enough, while Geiger lost his duel to Paschke. Young Ben Bayer also failed to qualify for the final.
Timi Zajc was disqualified before his first jump after his suit deviated from regulation by four millimetres — his second consecutive disqualification on the Tour. Karl Geiger commented that while such incidents can happen, a repeat is unacceptable and understandably frustrating for the athlete.
