Prevc’s ‘jump of the season’ contender secures World Cup win

Reigning Crystal Globe holder Nika Prevc (SLO) produced a spectacular second-round leap to win the women’s FIS Ski Jumping World Cup in Engelberg (SUI). After sitting behind Anna Odine Strøm (NOR) following round one, Prevc mastered tricky winds to fly 136 m for 149.2 points in the final, sealing her fourth victory of the 2025/26 season with a 284.1-point total.

Prevc, who had finished second in Saturday’s Engelberg competition, had been searching for her usual high style marks this season. On Sunday she delivered them, calling the decisive jump a confidence boost ahead of the Two Nights Tour. Strøm was second with 267.4 points, while Germany’s seven-time World Champion Katharina Schmid (247.9) earned her first podium since early January.

Wind played a major role throughout the day. Season revelation Nozomi Maruyama (JPN) missed the podium for just the second time this season, and Selina Freitag (GER) crashed after landing a 138 m jump that was the day’s longest, costing her crucial points. Delays were frequent as officials worked to keep conditions fair following a qualifying round topped by Prevc from Strøm and Freitag.

The result narrows Maruyama’s overall World Cup lead to 94 points over Prevc. The women now turn to the Two Nights Tour on 30–31 December in Garmisch-Partenkirchen before the finale in Oberstdorf on 1 January 2026.
