Ski jumping – Prevc completes Wisła double as Austrians struggle

Slovenian ski jumper Domen Prevc captured the second men’s World Cup competition in Wisła on Sunday, edging Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi by 0.9 points, with Germany’s Philipp Raimund in third.
With the victory, Prevc completed a Wisła weekend double and now has 11 World Cup wins. He narrowly denied Kobayashi a 37th career World Cup triumph. “I made great jumps today; yesterday I figured out what I needed to do here,” Prevc said. He leaves Poland as the overall World Cup leader and heads to Klingenthal with a 32‑point advantage over compatriot Anže Lanišek. Austria’s Daniel Tschofenig sits fifth overall, 162 points back.
It was a difficult weekend for Austria. On Saturday, Tschofenig was the best Austrian in sixth, and on Sunday he was only 13th. No Austrian reached the top ten in the previous weekend’s Ruka event either. After the first round in Wisła, the Austrian team was only placed from 15th downward; Tschofenig climbed from 19th to 13th in the final. Stephan Embacher and Maximilian Ortner missed the top‑30 cut for the second round.
Head coach Andreas Widhölzl downplayed talk of a major slump but acknowledged a “mini‑crisis.” “It’s a bit disappointing. We know we can jump better. It’s tight out there, but the team just didn’t jump that well,” he said, noting a lack of looseness and overthinking. The plan is for several quiet training sessions in Seefeld and Planica to reset before the next World Cup stop in Klingenthal. “Look ahead, stay positive, keep working. The material is very good; technically the energy isn’t really flowing. We have to get out of this small dip as quickly as possible,” Widhölzl added.
