Polish ski jumper Kacper Tomasiak matched his best result of the season with fifth place in a turbulent, lottery-like FIS World Cup event in Engelberg. For that performance he will receive 6,000 Swiss francs (about 27,000 PLN), and his cumulative prize money this season now stands at 28,450 CHF (around 128,500 PLN).
Despite his surge, Tomasiak remains far behind the overall prize-money leader, Slovenia’s Domen Prevc. After taking second place on Sunday, Prevc added 11,500 CHF to reach a season total of 134,775 CHF (about 609,000 PLN).
Among the Poles, Tomasiak has earned the most this season. Kamil Stoch sits 23rd on the prize list with 16,325 CHF (about 73,700 PLN) after adding 1,800 CHF in Engelberg. Piotr Żyła failed to reach the second round on Sunday and remains at 13,200 CHF (about 59,600 PLN). Paweł Wąsek added 2,600 CHF to reach 6,450 CHF (about 29,100 PLN). Dawid Kubacki earned nothing in Engelberg and stands at 5,100 CHF (about 23,000 PLN), just ahead of Maciej Kot, who picked up 800 CHF to reach 4,200 CHF (about 18,900 PLN).
Engelberg was the last World Cup stop before the Four Hills Tournament. Qualifying in Oberstdorf is scheduled for Sunday, with the first competition set for Monday, 29 December.
