Strong winds force Ruka World Cup cancellation

The second men’s World Cup event of the ‘Ruka Nordic’ weekend was cancelled due to unsafe wind conditions, with gusts reported at up to 18 m/s. The scheduled Sunday qualification was abandoned, and all 64 athletes had been set to start the opening round before worsening conditions made competition impossible.

The decision followed a weather‑affected Saturday event in which the second round was cancelled and Anže Lanišek won after a single round. On Sunday, although winds were more consistent, speeds remained far above safety limits (usual limit ~4 m/s), prompting officials to call off the competition for athlete safety.

FIS Ski Jumping World Cup Race Director Sandro Pertile explained that fluctuating winds, rain, and snowfall created unmanageable risk. With no possibility to postpone to Monday, FIS will work with other organizers and the Finnish Ski Association to find a replacement. Pertile indicated that Finland’s March World Cup in Lahti could be the most realistic rescheduling option, pending process and approvals.

The men will rejoin the women for the next stop of the 2025/26 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup in Wisła (POL), which is slated to host four contests from 4–7 December.
