Too much snow in Ruka – Lanišek wins chaotic World Cup; Tschofenig 12th

High winds and heavy snowfall disrupted the men’s FIS Ski Jumping World Cup competition in Ruka, Finland, leading to a chaotic event. After the organizers barely completed the first round, conditions deteriorated and the final round was halted after only a few jumpers. As a result, the first‑round classification stood as the official result.
Slovenia’s Anže Lanišek, who led at the break with a 142‑meter jump, was declared the winner—his second straight victory. Japan’s Ren Nikaido secured his first career World Cup podium, and Slovenia’s Domen Prevc completed the podium.
From an Austrian perspective, Daniel Tschofenig was the top finisher in 12th place. Manuel Fettner, competing in the absence of Stefan Kraft—who skipped the event as his wife is expecting—finished 13th. Stephan Embacher took 25th and also scored points, while Jan Hörl (35th) and Jonas Schuster (39th) missed out on World Cup points.
ÖSV head coach Andreas Widhölzl described the day as extremely difficult, with rapidly changing conditions and the need to pair good jumps with lucky wind at the right moment. He said the team would analyze the day and target a better outcome on Sunday, when another large‑hill competition is scheduled on Ruka’s wind‑sensitive hill.
