Domen Prevc reinforced his current supremacy in the Ski Jumping World Cup by taking his fifth win in a row in the first of two competitions in Engelberg. After sitting third at the halfway mark, the Slovenian surged to victory with 330.2 points, beating Germany’s Felix Hoffmann (326.4) and Japan’s Ren Nikaido (318.1).
From an Austrian perspective, the standout was 22‑year‑old Tyrolean Jonas Schuster, who delivered a career‑best result in fifth place with 314.9 points. “I’m mega happy—so cool, it was really fun. I’m glad I put it down, I’ll gladly take fifth,” Schuster told ORF. Head coach Andreas Widhölzl praised Schuster’s composure and execution, noting that many other ÖSV athletes are currently finding it harder to translate training form into competition.
Jan Hörl managed eighth place (306.8). In contrast, both Stefan Kraft and overall World Cup titleholder Daniel Tschofenig lost ground in the second round, finishing 14th (291.3) and 16th (290.0) respectively. “Every jump feels similar to me—sometimes it goes better, sometimes worse. Right now, not everything is coming together,” Kraft said.
There was a scare for Stephan Embacher, who fell after the telemark in the second round, but he reported he was largely fine: “It was a good day until that moment. I had too much forward lean, then the skis were pulled away. So far everything is okay.”
The Engelberg stop continues with a second competition scheduled for Sunday.
