Ninth in Garmisch — Tschofenig baffled: "I don't quite understand it!"

Daniel Tschofenig looked for answers after a disappointing result in Garmisch-Partenkirchen following his encouraging second place in Oberstdorf. The Carinthian, last season’s Four Hills winner and overall World Cup champion, finished ninth on New Year’s Day — a solid result but below expectations given his recent form.
Tschofenig admitted his jumps were inconsistent: “It’s a bit up and down! It wasn’t good — the jumps are not good,” he said, adding that he doesn’t fully understand why things worked in Oberstdorf but not in Garmisch: “I don’t quite understand why it worked in Oberstdorf and not here. It’s a bit up and down.”
He nevertheless praised his Austrian team-mates Jan Hörl and Stephan Embacher, who took second and third, saying he can learn from them: “Very big class — I can copy a few things from them.”
With Domen Prevc emerging as a top favourite for the Golden Eagle in this season’s Four Hills Tournament, Tschofenig will no longer be considered a contender for the overall Tour win after today’s setback. Immediate improvement does not seem likely, the article concluded.
