Valentin Foubert after his 17th place in the large-hill contest: "I'm leaving with mixed feelings"

Valentin Foubert finished 17th in the large-hill contest on Saturday evening at the Olympic Games in Val di Fiemme. Not entirely satisfied with his performance, Foubert offered a measured assessment of his individual events at the Games, while admitting he still thinks about his cruel fifth place on Monday in the normal‑hill contest.

Foubert, 17th in the large‑hill competition Saturday evening, five days after finishing 5th on the normal hill, said: “There are good things. In terms of technique I think it's okay. But the in‑run speed wasn't great. The general idea is that I'm not far off but I still need to work on certain things. Before the second jump my coach Nicolas Dessum and I said that my jump wasn't that far from the target and that what’s missing is to properly repeat the right things. I leave with mixed feelings. I'm still a bit in doubt, thinking that I was so close to that [medal] (on the normal hill) and that I still have work to do. Now, it's starting to come together, especially with this competition.”

Foubert referred back to his fifth place on the normal hill earlier in the week — an agonizing near‑miss for an Olympic medal — while acknowledging progress and areas to improve, notably the speed on the in‑run. The French jumper and his coach stressed repetition of the correct movements as the path forward.
