Valentin Foubert, eliminated from the Super Team in ski jumping, reflects on his 2026 Olympics: "It was a good experience"

The Milan‑Cortina Games are over for Valentin Foubert and the French jumpers.

Twelfth in the second round and therefore eliminated from the Super Team, Valentin Foubert and Jules Chervet tried to keep the positives from their first Olympic experience, which ended Monday evening in Val di Fiemme.

Valentin Foubert, twelfth and eliminated in the second round of the Super Team on Monday evening, said: “It was hard, really hard. But we could have done it. It’s not every day you get so many teams. That we beat so many teams is already good even though normally we would rather duel with Italy. But they really jumped well. I love the format because it opens doors. There are more teams, more people than in a four‑man team event. Of course it disturbs the big nations because they would have liked to have more entries to increase their chances of winning. But for us it’s better because we can participate. Otherwise we would have gone home. We’ll stay quiet this week to start again next week and then go to Austria for ski flying.

On his assessment of the Games: “I didn’t come in thinking about a medal. It was very hard after the small hill when I saw I had the chance and then lost it. I take away that next time, even if I already work a lot on it, I’ll have to work more on the mental side. Open opportunities everywhere and kick my own butt for the head. Also, it was cool to see how the Games work, to watch the cross‑country skiers, all that. It was a good experience.”

Jules Chervet added: “It could have been very good. For me, it was tough on the trial jump. Yet my two competition jumps were free. I enjoyed it and that’s already not bad. And thanks to Valentin, we got to do two jumps (laughs). It was really cool. Tomorrow we’ll go see the French hockey team in Milan, then we’ll return to France on Wednesday. For me it was a first Olympic experience. Valentin made us live something exceptional. I vibrated for the others and tonight, on those last two jumps, I was able to free myself and I’m pleased. Even if it’s not the result we wanted, I’m happy to have gone to the end of the Games.”
