20 years of the Vienna City Eagles: From the Danube Island to the Ski Jumping World Cup
Originally published in krone.at on November 17, 2025
A group of enthusiasts founded Vienna’s first and only ski jumping club in 2005. Two decades on, the “Wiener Stadtadler” celebrated their 20th anniversary, looking back on milestones ranging from flights beyond 200 meters to the first-ever World Cup points by a jumper from Vienna.
Meghann Wadsak is cited as the first Viennese athlete to score World Cup points, a symbolic breakthrough for the club’s development pipeline. Founding member Christian Moser reflected on the original plan made at the club’s inception and the significance of reaching the 20-year mark.
Amid the celebrations, a persistent challenge remained a central topic: the club still does not have its own home jumping facility in Vienna. Leaders and members emphasize that securing a permanent “nest” is essential to sustain talent development and raise the club’s competitiveness at national and international levels.
