At the women's World Cup in Villach Lisa Eder delivered a strong home performance and narrowly missed claiming her first World Cup victory. The 24-year-old from Salzburg landed a dream jump of 96.5 metres on the small hill and put pressure on the leader Nika Prevc of Slovenia. In the end Prevc held her nerve and won by 2.7 points, taking her third win in the Villach Alpenarena.

Eder was delighted with her second-place result. “On my second attempt I finally hit the edge — that worked well,” she said. She noted that many people from her home town of Leogang had come to Villach and that finishing second was a nice present for them. She added that the competition restarts on Tuesday and should be exciting again.

Germany's Selina Freitag completed the podium with a deficit of 13.4 points. Austria's Julia Mühlbacher finished twelfth and was the only other local athlete to score World Cup points. Mühlbacher had been third in qualification and said that with two good jumps a better result would have been possible.

Of nine Austrian starters only Mühlbacher and Eder made the main event; Nordic combined athlete Lisa Hirner (ST) had also qualified for the main competition earlier but failed to make the top field, placing 37th in the qualification.
