Ski jumping: Wellinger and Geiger risk being dropped from World Cup team

Germany’s ski jumping stars Karl Geiger and Andreas Wellinger continue to disappoint in the World Cup, putting their places in the national World Cup squad at risk.
Head coach Stefan Horngacher kept the door open regarding whether the duo will start at next weekend’s World Cup in Klingenthal, telling SID: “We will make a decision on Monday for both and see how we proceed.” No official team list for Klingenthal has been released yet, suggesting potential rotation.
Form struggles so far: - Karl Geiger failed to qualify twice in Wisła, which he called a major setback: “Right now I don’t have the confidence, and then it just doesn’t work. That was a big step backward, and it really annoys me.” His best result this season is 23rd in Lillehammer. - Andreas Wellinger’s best result is 7th in Ruka, but he placed only 39th and 47th in the main competitions in Wisła.
Before the World Cup in Poland, Horngacher noted in a DSV release that the staff already knew Wellinger and Geiger were not yet in top form to start the winter, though both had shown small improvements. Despite that, their immediate sporting future—especially for Klingenthal—remains uncertain.
The situation is increasingly critical for the pair with the Four Hills Tournament just three weeks away and with the Olympic Games looming.
