The Continental Cup ski jumping event in Oberhof featured seven Polish athletes and delivered several notable performances on Sunday, February 15.

In the morning competition (which had been postponed from Saturday due to weather) Klemens Joniak was the best Pole, placing sixth after a 104.5 m jump. Dawid Kubacki and Maciej Kot also finished inside the top ten in that round.

Later that day the second contest took place. Dawid Kubacki proved to be Poland’s most regular performer across the two events, finishing seventh in one contest and ninth in the other. Jakub Wolny produced a breakthrough performance — after failing to jump in the second series of the first competition (he was the lowest-ranked Polish athlete inside the top 30 there), Wolny returned strongly in the later contest and was Poland’s best finisher, coming fourth and missing the podium by just 11.2 points.

Wolny’s season-best distance of 108.5 m was among the day’s longest; only Norway’s Sindre Ulven Joergensen jumped farther that day (109.0 m) but he ultimately placed seventh.

Piotr Żyła struggled and ended both competitions in 28th place after a run of poor jumps. The overall winners of the day were Jonas Schuster and Maximilian Ortner from Austria — they took the top two spots between the two contests (initially placing second and first, and later first and second respectively).

The Oberhof Continental Cup continues to provide important international competition outside the Olympic program, and Sunday’s events were encouraging for several Polish jumpers who showed depth and promising form.
